Information Technology (IT)

The mission of MPD’s Information Technology (IT) Division is to optimize the Department’s ability to protect and serve the citizens of Memphis through the efficient and innovative use of the most advanced Information Technology (IT) available. Challenges include identifying which technologies should be incorporated to achieve the greatest public safety benefit. Responsibilities include planning, developing, implementing, and supporting the IT systems and networks throughout the Police Division.

The Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) hosts several applications that leverage current technologies to combat crime, enhance the security of city assets and infrastructure, and protect the citizens of the Memphis area. Responsibility for the security of all physical assets has been placed under the Memphis Police Department (MPD) and standardized for monitoring through the RTCC. The center utilizes advanced software capable of providing instant information on recent criminal activity within a given radius, identifying existing crime patterns in neighborhoods, and tracking individuals with prior arrest records who may frequent those areas.
