Assistant Chief of Police Services
Sharonda Hampton began her career with the Memphis Police Department on January 20, 1986, as a Police Service Technician.
On March 31, 1986, she entered the Training Academy as a Police Recruit. Upon completion of basic training on June 28, 1986, she was assigned to Uniform Patrol at the East Precinct.
As a Police Officer, she worked various assignments which included the East Precinct, South Precinct and Vice Squad.
On May 30, 1996, Officer Hampton was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. As a Sergeant, she worked East Precinct, Special Traffic Investigative Services, Sex Crimes and Felony Response.
On April 12, 2002, Sergeant Hampton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. As a Lieutenant, she worked Sex Crimes, Northeast Precinct Alpha shift, Downtown Precinct Charlie shift, Burglary, Organized Crime Unit/Criminal Apprehension Team, and Investigative Support Unit.
On April 8, 2008, Lieutenant Hampton was promoted to the rank of Major. As a Major, she worked Organized Crime Unit/ Investigative Support Unit, Vice Squad, and Inspectional Services Bureau.
On September 14, 2009, Major Hampton was appointed to the rank of Colonel. As a Colonel, she worked Mt. Moriah Station Administration.
On February 1, 2016, Colonel Hampton was appointed to the rank of Deputy Chief. As a Deputy Chief, she was assigned to Executive Administration (Investigative Services).
On April 18, 2017, Deputy Chief Hampton was assigned to Executive Administration (Administrative Services).
On July 17, 2024, Deputy Chief Hampton was appointed Interim Assistant Chief of Administrative and Investigative Services.
On January 4, 2025, Interim Assistant Chief Hampton was appointed to Assistant Chief.
