The Vehicle Storage lot operates seven (7) days a week, 24 hours per day. Vehicle Storage processes vehicles that are brought to the facility by the authority of the Memphis Police Department (MPD), the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, or Housing and Community Development (HCD). During 2018, Vehicle Storage impounded 10,572 vehicles, released 6,982 vehicles, and sold 3,565 vehicles at auction.

IMPOUND AND STORAGE FEES

$135.00 for impound. Storage fee is $30.00 per day. Does not include winching or other additional fees if required.

REQUIRED INFORMATION TO RELEASE VEHICLE

Vehicle can be released to registered owner. In addition to paying fees, you will need the following to release your vehicle:

PROOF OF OWNERSHIP

Documentation displaying
your proof of ownership

REGISTRATION

Current registration, title or lease agreement

LICENSE PLATE/VIN

License Plate Number or Vehicle Identification Number

IDENTIFICATION

Valid Picture ID, such as Driver’s License or an ID Card

A licensed driver is required to drive the vehicle from the lot. Otherwise, you may arrange to have the vehicle towed from the lot for a fee.

AUTHORIZING SOMEONE ELSE TO RELEASE VEHICLE

A person who is not the registered owner may pick up the vehicle, or remove property from the vehicle, if they have a notarized statement from the registered owner that includes:

  • The name of the authorized person
  • A legible photo copy of the registered owner’s Identification Card or Driver’s License
  • License Plate Number or Vehicle Identification Number
  • Make and year of the vehicle

RELEASING RENTAL CARS

To release a rental vehicle, a person must present the rental agreement and the matching identification card or Driver’s License on the agreement.

VEHICLES ON HOLD

If the vehicle was involved in a crime or is being held for investigation, it must be cleared by Memphis Police Department. Please call (901) 636-8200 to determine if your vehicle is on hold.
